WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION

Format: THIMUN
Topic: Improving labor, living and environmental standards in international trade

A classic in MUN, WTO regulates trade between nations. WTO is a platform for all member countries to negotiate and discuss international trading in order to facilitate trade that benefits all stakeholders.

With growing ethical concerns among consumers, international trade must now take a step back to look at the practices it condones. Exploitation, including environmental damage and inhumane working conditions, is more often than not considered the norm in the industry. This is especially true among key industry players who manipulate systems of power to capitalize on profit, at the expense of so many others. Trade involves and affects everyone on some scale, how would you rethink trade in the public interest?

The council offers delegates an opportunity to explore the real-world issue of trade, learn of the existing trade situation and policies, as well as have substantial debates on the issue. Delegates will also have to think critically from various angles while navigating the complex dimensions of trade. A great place for both newbie and experienced delegates to exercise diplomatic skills in finding compromises between protecting individual countries’ trade interests while looking at the bigger picture.
