WORLD METEOROLOGICAL ORGANIZATION

Format: HMUN
Topics: The Ozone and groundwater depletion: A comprehensive outlook on Human Health; The Vanishing Glaciers: Tackling the effect of rising sea levels

As a specialized agency of the United Nations, WMO is dedicated to international cooperation and coordination on the state and behaviour of the Earth’s atmosphere, its interaction with the land and oceans, the weather and climate it produces, and the resulting distribution of water resources. WMO promotes the application of meteorological, climatological, hydrological and oceanographic information in all human activities. WMO facilitates free and unrestricted exchange of data and information, products and services in real- or near-real time on matters relating to safety and security of society, economic welfare and the protection of the environment.

The council has a direct focus on sustainability. Climate change poses an immense risk to all life that demands to be mitigated quickly and effectively. The consequences are increasingly dire and threaten insurmountable damage. Solutions have long been discussed and advocated for, but how easy is their practical implementation? The two topics of the council require delegates to approach specific climate change issues with pragmatic solutions. The council fosters cooperation among all delegates and encourages long-term thinking to resolve this obstacle imperilling humanity. A pretty straightforward council suggested for all delegates keen on environmental issues.
